EXAMINATION #1
1. Can points be scored if a kicked ball hits an upright of the goal post?
2. Should a short kick (or return kick) from the end zone, which lands in the
end
zone be whistled dead?
3. Team A kicks off from the A45. A Team A player leaps into the air at the B50
and hits
the ball out of bounds. The Line Judge signals possession to Team B. Is he
correct?
4. In the last 3 minutes of the first quarter, Team B accepts a penalty for a
Team A illegal
procedure. Does the time start on the snap of the ball?
5. Team A scrimmage the ball from the left hash of the B44 yard line . Team A
attempts a
field goal which is wide and Team A scores a rouge. Can Team B request to
scrimmage
the ball at the B44?
6. A Team B player intercepts a pass at the B2 yard line and his momentum
carries him into
the Team B end zone where he is tackled. The Field Judge signals a safety touch.
Is he correct?
7. Team A QB throws a pass which is tipped by a Team B linebacker 3 yards across
from
the line of scrimmage. A53 catches the ball and gains 10 yards. Is this a legal
play?
8. Blocker A52 attempts to block B47 from the side. Just as he is about to make
contact ,
B47 turns and A52 hits B47 from behind. Should the Line Judge call A52 for an
illegal
block?
9. The Referee shall have the captains of each team warned when five minutes
remain in
the half time interval.
10. A Team B player tackles the ball carrier with his open hand on the ball
carrier’s face
mask. Should the official flag the Team B player for face masking?
11. Has a touch down been scored if the ball touches the padded uprights of the
goal posts
on the goal line?
12. In order to access a five yard penalty for no yards, the following two
conditions must be
met (i) the ball must have hit the ground and (ii) the kicking team players must
make an
effort to retreat before the ball is touched by the receiving team.
13. On any play, a player who steps out of bounds is not allowed to return and
participate in
the play.
14. On a kickoff, the ball hits the marker at the intersection of the goal line
and sideline.
Has Team A scored a single point?
15. On third and goal from the B1, the officials whistle the play dead and
rotate the ball so
the long axis of the ball is parallel to the sideline .As a result, can the
officials award
Team A a touchdown?
16. A76 lines up a the end position and snaps the ball. A76 proceeds down field
and catches
a pass. Is this a legal play?
17. A ball fumbled out of bounds always belongs to the team that last touched it
at the point
closest to the goal line of the team entitled to it.
18. The head coach calls for a time out and the Head Linesman whistles and
signals time
out. Is this correct?
19. When a forward pass is caught simultaneously by eligible receivers of both
team, the ball
is awarded to Team A regardless of it being touched by Team B.
20. Only cleated shoes with specifications identified in the rule book are
allowed on all
playing surfaces.
21. It is a foul if an ineligible receiver is downfield on punt situation that
breaks down?
22. All penalties on a convert may be applied on the kickoff.
23. If Team A passer deliberately throws the ball out of bounds from the end
zone,
Team B will be awarded 2 points, no option.
24. Team A must always have seven players within one yard of the line of

30. If an inadvertent whistle occurs on the last play of the half, there will

31. If Team B blocks a punt at the A10 and a Team B player touches the ball on
the field of
play before it goes out of bounds in the end zone or a Team A player touches the
ball in the end zone before it goes out of bounds in the end zone, team B scores
a safety
touch , no option.
32. Team A, 2D and 30 at the A45. Running back A25 fumbles the ball at the A40.

dribbles the loose ball to the A20, where it is recovered by A36. The Referee
awards
Team A first down at the A20. Is he correct?
33. The Team A holder drops a high snap and the kicker, kicks the ball as it
bounces up off
the ground such that the ball travels over the crossbar and between the
uprights. The
Referee signals a field goal. Is he correct?
34. A 27 is running downfield and as he makes his cut, B36 grabs his arm to slow
him down.
The Team A quarterback then throws the ball to where A27 was running his
pattern.
Could the official call illegal contact?
35. On 3rd D and 7, Team A punt the ball 5 yards across the line of scrimmage on
the wide
side of the field, where onside A27 recovers the ball and is tackled
immediately. Has
Team A gained a first down?
36. If a punt receiver inadvertently steps out of bounds and returns to the
field of play to
catch the ball, can he legally advance the ball?
37. When a kick off goes out of bounds in flight, the sideline official on the
opposite side
should proceed to a line 25 yards in advance of the kickoff line.
38. A 25 fumbles the ball into the Team B end zone where B67 touches the ball
before it
rolls out of bounds in the B end zone. The Back Umpire signals possession to
Team B. Is
he correct?
39. A27 fumbles the ball from the A35 to the A39. Can A56 ,on the A39, legally
recover the
ball?
40. Can the team trainer decide if a player needs a tinted visor?
41. The quarterback throws a pass which strikes A58 in the back at the line of
scrimmage.
The ball is alive.
42. Can a player be called for spearing, even if he commits himself before the
ball is dead?
43. An onside Team A player can enter the restraining zone to block the opposing
receiver so
another onside Team A player can recover the ball.
44. Does A56 have to report in order to play in the Team A back field?
45. A ball fumbled by Team A into the Team B end zone and recovered by Team B is
considered the same as an interception in the end zone.
46. When a measurement is required, the Head Linesman will place his foot at the
location of
the back picket before sending in the sticks.
47. On a change of possession all forms of blocking are permitted.
48. On a kick play, can B62 contact the Team A center’s within one yard in
advance of the
line of scrimmage.
49. Team A scrimmages at the B14. Team B is called for pass interference in the
end zone.
Will Team A have first down on the B1?
50. A Team A kick off is fumbled by Team B and touched by a Team A player prior
to
simultaneous possession by players of both teams. The back official awards the
ball to
Team A. Is he correct?
